Ahead of the today’s launch, Xiaomi had already created some hype for their first Redmi 18:9 bezel-less affordable phones; Xiaomi Redmi 5 & Redmi 5 Plus. And, as expected, today, Xiaomi launched their first of bezel-less Redmi on their turf.
Though both of the devices look very similar, there are some obvious differences, from the screen size to the processor used.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 & Redmi 5 Plus Specifications:
Speaking about the Xiaomi Redmi 5, the smartphone is the smaller version of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. The device sports 5.7-inch display with HD+ (720×1440 pixels) and obvious 18:9 aspect ratio display. There is Snapdragon 450 SoC powering up the device. The handset rocks full-metal unibody with the minimum bezels on the front. Camera wise, the device comes with 12 MP rear camera with the larger 1.25μm pixel size and 5 MP front shooter with front soft LED flash. There will be two variants of the phone; 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB. On the top, the machine runs on MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat and juiced with 3300 mAh battery. Redmi 5 measures 151.8×72.8×7.7mm and weigh 157 grams.
Coming to the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, the smartphone packs a 5.99-inch display with FHD+ (1080×2160 pixels) 18:9 display with a 403ppi pixel density. On board, the handset is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at up 2GHz. Likewise, this device also sports same 12 MP and 5 MP camera sensors and runs on same software MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. Redmi 5 Plus measures 158.5×75.45×8.05mm weigh 180 grams. However, under the hood, there is little larger 4000 mAh battery juicing it than its little sibling.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 & Redmi 5 Plus Pricing:
The Redmi 5 runs for CNY 799 (about 120$) for 2GB RAM/ 16GB-storage variant, while the 3GB RAM/ 32GB-storage variant is priced at CNY 899 (roughly ~$135).
The Redmi 5 Plus starts 999 yuan (~$150) for the 3GB/32GB-storage model, while another 4GB/64GB-storage variant selling for 1299 yuan (~$180).
These devices will be available in Black, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold hues.
Both of the phones have announced today only on China, still, they will be available after Dec 12th afterward. However, there is no official word when these handsets debut outside the China.
